Cassandra Corcoran and Pete Sutherland do their part to help promote Monkton Community Coffeehouse Annual Chili Cook-Off, 6-7:30 p.m., Feb. 9.
Monkton The Monkton Community Coffeehouse will host the 4th annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 9, 6 p.m.–7:30 p.m., at the Monkton Firehouse.
There is a suggested admission of $5 that also enters participants in a $100 raffle. Four $25 winners will be drawn at the end of dinner. All proceeds raised at the event will be used by the Coffeehouse to sponsor Front Porch Forum in Monkton.
“The Chili Cook-off has been very successful,” said Jonathan Corcoran, president of the Coffeehouse, “We’ve literally outgrown the firehouse and the school. So the feeling is it's time to change the nature of the event. Since everybody clearly loves chili, we're going to stick with that. But we're going to skip the restaurant competition and the judging and turn it into more of a local social.”
Participants are encouraged to prepare enough of their favorite recipe to feed 4 people. The chili needs to be brought in a pot for the dining table (no plug-ins). Tables will be set in advance and neighbors will share their chilis at the table where they are seated. The Coffeehouse will provide the tableware and drinks.
The Monkton Community Coffeehouse board decided to organize this year's Chili Cook-off as a fundraising event to bring Front Porch Forum to Monkton.
The Monkton Community Coffeehouse is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2007.
