Countdown to spring: 2013 Vermont Flower Show

— Vermont Flower Show organizers are seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks in preparation of and during the show, in March.

Are you interested in gardening and the horticulture industry? Do you enjoy interacting with people? if so, you can be a part of the 17th Vermont Flower Show. In exchange for your time, you will receive complimentary entrance into the Flower Show for the day of your choice. The 2013 biennial event will be held March 1-3 at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

Visitors to the show will be delighted by this year’s theme, “The Road Not Taken,” as they wander through a grand central display filled with flowering plants, water features and stonework. The inspiration behind this year’s theme lies in the discovery of less-traveled places, the exploration of the natural world, and reconnecting with the forgotten wonders of enchanting green spaces. Highlights of the show over 100 exhibitors, educational seminars and workshops, cooking demonstrations, a Vermont Specialty Food & Wine area, a family room with hands-on activities and entertainment, industry-focused bookstore, and more.

With over 10,000 people attending in the 2011 Flower Show, this year's attendance will equal or surpass last year. The show is open to the public on Friday, March 1st from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday March 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The daily cost of admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (60 plus), $3 for kids (ages 3-17), and free for children under the age of 3. A three day pass is $30.

The Vermont Flower Show is presented by Green Works, Vermont Nursery & Landscape Association (VNLA), a non-profit statewide organization, dedicated to educating and increasing awareness of the growing industry of horticulture (wholesale and retail nurseries, greenhouses, retail garden centers and florists, designers, landscape and tree services).

The VNLA Board and Flower Show Committees work thousands of hours in creating a community-wide event that educates, entertains, and inspires.
