Basketball, curling available to residents at Rutland’s Godnick Center

— Godnick Center Director Joan Olsen will teach the basic skills needed to play the game of basketball along with having fun.

Participants will learn to dribble, pass and shoot during a 45-minute introduction to the world of basketball.

Basketball play begins Jan. 5 and run every Saturday, through Feb. 9, from 8-8:45 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to get involved and help out the staff.

Registration fee is $43 for residents and $54 for non residents includes a t-shirt. Register at our office at the Godnick Adult Center or online at www.rutlandrec.com before Dec. 21 and receive a $10 discount.

In another instructional program Olsen will teach the fundamentals of basketball to third graders. Children will dribbling, passing and shooting along with some other important basketball skills like defending and some basic offensive moves. The class begins Jan. 5 and running every Saturday, though Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m.

If you’re interested in culring, the Rutland Curling Club curls on Sunday and Wednesday evenings through February. Observers are welcome to attend sessions and see how members strategize the game and deliver the stones. Details on the club and the season may be found at www.rutlandrocks.com.
