Children of the Hinesburg Nursery School at the Hinesburg Community School are gearing up for the town’s annual Winter Festival, Waffle Breakfast and Silent Auction, Feb. 9.

— When February rolls around in Hinesburg, most residents turn their attention to the annual Hinesburg Winter Festival and Winter Waffle Breakfast and Silent Auction. The events take place in the central community, along Route 116, Saturday, Feb. 9.

This year’s waffle breakfast organizers will mark the event’s 15th birthday.

The festival events are all downtown and at the Hinesbury Community School; the kick-off breakfast and auction will be held at the Community School from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. The school is located at 10888 Route 116.

“You can enjoy waffles with strawberries, maple syrup and whipped cream, bacon, fresh fruit, bagels, coffee and orange juice - and all for a great cause,” said Hinesburg resident Keely Dulcon. Dulcon hasn’t missed a breakfast in 15 years. “Once you’ve had your fill, head on over to the silent auction where you can bid on a wide variety of items from local merchants—great stuff including homemade products, gift certificates to local businesses and services, food products, handmade gifts, dinners, memberships to local attractions, ski passes and more.”

This year’s event includes insideactivities for children, crafts, facepainting, an open gym, at 10 a.m., and visits from Clifford the Big Red Dog and Monty the Moose from Vermont Children's Hospital.

After the breakfast, visitors will venture outside to enjoy the festivities of the Hinesburg Winter Carnival which include ice skating, broomball, hockey, relay races, a snowman building contest and sliding.

All proceeds benefit the Hinesburg Nursery School, a non-profit parent cooperative preschool. Adults pay $6, children ages two to 12 pay $4, and toddlers under 24 months are admitted free.
